Comparison of Rhetorical Devices of Commitment between Chinese and English Business Contracts 

 

Abstract

        In the interaction and communication of people’s daily life, the application of commissives can be seen frequently, which has become the focused contents for some linguisticians. As one necessary part of business, contract is considered to be one vital sign for parties to identify separate rights and responsibilities in economic or trading activities. As with the nature of law, it is a must for usage of rhetorical devices of commitment in the contract. Accompanied with economic globalization, there are more and increasingly deep economic communications between China and foreign countries. As a result, it is quite necessary to know and understand the contract text under different kinds of culture, which is the same with the commissives. On one hand, it will promote further communication for both parties in the field of economy. On the other hand, it will make contribution to the translation of English business contracts comparing the rhetorical devices of commitments

        As a matter of fact, more focus about the business contracts are placed on  the translation of English business contract text or other aspects of business contracts like pragmatic principles. As for the theme of comparison of commitments between Chines and English business contracts, there are few researches on this topic. On one hand, it is no dout that emphasis on the research of English business contract has much significance. On the other hand, the research on Chinese business contract has the equal value. At the same time, as the legal documents, the commitments in the narration of the contract text take up great proportion. In consequence, it is necessary to give more attention on the commissive words in the business contract. With more and more interactions between Chinese and English culture in the filed of economy, there is much point in comparing the difference of rhetorical devices of commitments between Chinese and English business contracts.
